Authorities in China have agreed a deal worth $12.5 billion Google to acquire Motorola's Mobility, this will pave the way for Google to put a bow on the company's largest acquisition to date (Google has confirmed the approval, but the news broke of the SEC filings by Motorola Mobility). With the acquisition of Motorola, Google for the first time in the business of manufacturing of mobile devices like cell phones and tablets, which seem to put it in direct competition with the likes of Samsung and HTC.
However, this acquisition also puts Google in the business of set-top box. Motorola Mobility makes Millions of them for cable companies - Google and arms with a sheaf of some 17.000 patents it can use to defend Android from Infringement claims.
